Gary H. Dietrich,
son of Herman and Agnes (Vogel Dietrich, was born on December 14, 1946 in
Bismarck ND. Gary attended St. Mary’s Central High School where he
graduated in 1964. He joined the Navy in 1965. He returned from the Navy
and started to work for his father in the family business, Dietrich Sanitary
Service. On June 8, 1973 he married his sole mate Betty Kartes. Gary and
Betty were proud parents of 2 daughters, Danya and Tami. In 1978 Gary
purchased Dietrich Sanitary Service and became one of the largest sanitation
companies in the state of North Dakota. During that time he was very active
in the local community. He sold the business and retired in 1996. He then
pursued his love for hunting, fishing and golfing. He was an avid sheep
hunter and while hunting all over the world, he completed his super slam in
2000.
Gary
was an active member of AA and reached out and helped many people with their
sobriety. Gary was a fierce competitor in the cutting horse arena, winning
many awards all over the country. He enjoyed the many fishing outings with
his mother and father. He was a golf enthusiast and spent many days on the
course with just as completive nephew, Dave Glasser and many other family
and friends. Between his many activities and AA fellowship, his friends
encompassed the whole world. He was a member of the Eagles, Elks, American
Legion and Knights of Columbus. His recent pride and joy was his first and
only grandchild, Tanner Dietrich Dobbs.
He
will be remembered by many of us, as a kind and generous man. A man of
honor and a man of vision. Gary approached his diagnosis of cancer like he
approached life, with enthusiasm and positive thinking.
